About

A thermal bath with warm salt-water pools in the spa town of Bad Ischl. Its textile-free sauna area (from 16) has eight heat rooms, an outdoor sauna in a garden, hourly infusions and a women-only Thursday morning.

Saunas and steam

  • Finnish sauna
    The classic dry sauna, usually 80–100 °C.
  • Bio sauna
    A gentler sauna of about 50–60 °C with more humidity, also called sanarium.
  • Steam bath
    Around 45 °C with nearly 100 % humidity.
  • Infrared sauna
    Infrared heaters warm the body directly while the air stays cooler.
  • Outdoor sauna
    A sauna in its own cabin or with a door straight to the open air, so you step outside to cool off.
  • Aufguss (sauna ritual)
    A sauna master pours scented water on the hot stones and fans the heat through the room.

Cooling down

  • Cold plunge (under 20 °C)
    A small pool of cold water, below 20 °C, to dip into after the heat.
  • Cold bucket shower or waterfall
    A gush of cold water from above, or a bucket you tip over yourself.
  • Ice fountain
    Crushed ice to rub on your skin after the sauna.

    A warm pool with jets of air and water bubbling around you, usually for several people.

    An outdoor pool heated enough to use in winter too.

    A room with salt walls or salty air, for breathing and resting.

    A garden, terrace or lawn with loungers, to cool down and rest in the fresh air.
  • Foot baths
    Basins of warm, or hot and cold, water for your feet, often used between sauna rounds.
